Preparation of SiC Superfine Powder by Fluidized Bed Opposed Jet Mill

The superfine-treatment of the industrial SiC powder was carried out by fluidized bed opposed jet mill(QLM-80K), and the effects of working pressure on superfine-treatment were studied. The particle size distribution, microscopic morphology and structure of the SiC powder after and before superfine-treatment were studied by laser grain size analyzer, SEM and XRD. The results show that the effect of work pressure on super-treatment was apparent. When work pressure is 0^6MPa, compared with before super-treatment, after super-treatment the average size of the powder decreases from 3^01μm to 0^75μm, the percent of the particle size2^5μm ascends from 82^86% to 99^85%, and the size distribution of two peaks(0^4～1^5μm and 8～23μm) becomes one peak(0^4～1^2μm), the size distribution width decreases from 25^125 to 0^833; the SiC particle shapes are laminar and nubbly, the blocky particle disappears basically, and the reunite decreases in evidence; the crystalline of SiC is α-SiC, the intensity of diffraction peak decreases and FWHM increases with the decrease of particle size.
