Effect of Brookite Phase on Titania Nanocrystal Phase Transition

In the paper, titania nanocrystals were prepared by sol-gel technique using Ti(O-BU)_4 as the precursor. The samples existed in the form of nanometer anatase titania with some brookite, which was proved by X-ray diffraction analysis. Titania nanocrystals come about phase transition at lower temperature, and the process of anatase-rutile phase transition is quicker than that of brookite-rutile phase transition. The changes of anatase lattice parameter c seem to be related to presence of brookite phase. DTA-TGA result shows the process of phase transition brookite- anatase can be seen between 360°C and 500°C. Finally, the mechanism of anatase-rutile phase transition with some brookite is simply analyzed.
