Synthesis and Properties of Acrylonitrile /Acrylamide Copolymers

Acrylonitrile(AN)/Acrylamide(AM) copolymers containing 0~25 mol% AM were synthesized by deposition polymerization in water.Fourier Transform Infra-red microscopy(FTIR),Nuclear Magnetic(NMR),Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC),Derivative Thermogravimetry(DTG) and X-ray Diffraction(XRD) etc were used to characterize the structures and properties of the copolymers.The results show that,the measured AM molar ratios in the copolymers are slightly higher than the theoretical values,which are calculated from the raw material ratios.The molar ratio of AM affects the decomposition temperature,the exothermic heat and crystallinity of the copolymers.The decomposition temperature of the copolymer decreases firstly and then rises with the increase of the AM molar ratio.The decomposition temperature drops to 262.5℃ when the content of AM is 20 mol%.The quantity of exothermic heat also decreases firstly and then increases with the increase of AM molar ratio.The presence of AM changes the cyclization reaction mechanism of the copolymers from a free radical cyclization reaction to an ionic one.
