Structure and Luminescent Properties of YAG∶Eu

Polycrystalline powders of (Y_ 1-x Eu_x)_3Al_5O_ 12 (x=0.0~0.1) were synthesized by gel-combustion method. X-ray diffraction reveals that all the samples crystallize in a single phase of cubic (Ia3d). With increasing of x, the lattice parameters increase. The crystal lattice collapses when x=0.07. In addition to x=0.10 which appear the concentration quenching, the structures and the luminous properties of other samples change in similar trend. The relationship between the structure and luminous properties is discussed.
