A study on the PAE/CMC dual strengthening system

A dual strengthening system was developed of cationic polyelectrolyte polyamideamine epichlorohydrine (PAE) and anionic poly- electrolyte carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) for continuous treatment of pulp. After the addition of PAE and CMC, the results of pulp perfor- mance testing indicated that when the dosages were the same, the dual PAE/CMC strengthening system had a better effect on the sheet dry-wet strength properties than that with PAE or CMC solely, and the adding order had no distinct influence on the strengthening effect.
