The Bonding Interface of Titanium Steel Clad Plate by Explosion

The bonding interfaces of titanium-steel clad plates by explosion have been investigated by optical microscope, SEM and AES, and their machanical properties have been also tested for lab. Scale products(NO.1)and the industry scale products (NO.2)The result show thatthe bonding interface of NO.1 exhibits a fine wavy structure,no intermetallic compounds and other defects exist,and the interracial tensile strength and shear strength are not less than 475 MPa and 368 MPa,respectively.The bonding interface of NO.2 has a big wavy structure and has some melt defects on it,forming a Fe-Ti compound. The interface tensile strength is 127 MPa and the shear strength is up to 278MPa,for NO.2.These machanical properties have been enough to satisfy normal engineering applications.
