Mechanical Properties and Damping Capacity of Magnesium Matrix Composites with Hybrid Reinforcement

Magnesium matrix composites reinforced with hybrid SiCp and Al2O3·SiO2f were fabricated by the liquid pressure infiltration technique, their mechanical property and damping capacity were then studied. It was found that the strength of magnesium matrix composites was improved markedly as compared with that of pure magnesium, but their damping capacities decreased. Moreover, two relaxation damping peaks were found in the composite samples, peakⅠon about 150℃ appeared not only in pure magnesium but also in its composites, which was related to the dislocation movement; peakⅡon about 250℃ appeared only in Mg matrix composites, which was attributed to the interface slip between SiC particulate and Mg matrix.
