Photocatalytic Activity of TiO_2-PEDT/PSS Dual-Layer Composite Film

TiO2 dual-layer composite film was successively prepared on glass flakes by dip-coating using the mixed solution of poly 3,4-ethylene dioxy thiophene adulterating poly styrene sulfonate (i.e. PEDT/PSS). The influence of the component of PEDT/PSS mixed solution, and the thicknesses and of PEDT/PSS layer and TiO2 layer on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2-PEDT/PSS composite film were investigated. It was found that the best combination property of PEDT/PSS mixed solution was obtained when the volume ratio of PEDT/PSS solution and the hydrolysates of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was in the range of 10:1 to 15:1, and the optimal thicknesses of PEDT/PSS layer and TiO2 layer were about 2 μm and 200 nm, respectively. In addition, the mechanism of the photocatalytic activity enhancement of TiO2-PEDT/PSS composite film was also analyzed. The results show that the photogenerated electron injection into the PEDT/PSS increases the hole concentration of superficial TiO2 layer and thus the photocatalytic activity of composite film if comparing with the single TiO2 film.
