Effects of MgO and SiO_2 Additives on the Properties of Ceramics Corundum Abrasives

By using pressureless sintering technique,the ceramics corundum abrasives through the doping of MgO and SiO2 additives were prepared.The effects of combination of MgO and SiO2 additives on microstructure,mechanical properties and sintering temperature of ceramics corundum abrasives were studied by SEM and diamond compressive strength tester.The results showed that through increasing the amount of MgO in additives,the grain developed anisotropic microstructure and the single particle compressive strength of abrasives showed the tendency which increased early and decreased later.The sintering temperature would rise with the increasing content of MgO in additives.
