Mechanism of Thermal Shock Damage by Laser Irradiation on TiO_2 Ceramic Coatings

The effect of laser output power on the damage of TiO_2 ceramic coatings prepared by APS(Air Plasma Spray) under the condition of irradiation was studied.The mechanism of the coating damage was investigated.The results showed that:the TiO_2 coating damage became serious with the increase of the output power of the laser.When the power of the laser was 3900W,the TiO_2 coating was destroyed.The thermal effect area was found in the matrix.The micro damage morphology of the TiO_2 coatings included mainly radiate structure and branch structure.The energy of lasers was depleted by the melting- recrystallization and propagation of the cracks in the TiO_2 coatings.
