ADSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS ON BENTONITE CLAY MINERAL

Ke Jiajun Chen Shumin Hu Xiangfu Zhang ZhiPing(Institute of Chemical Metallurgy, Academia Sinica, Beijing)  
The ability of the bentonite clay mineral to adsorb heavy metals has been investigated in this paper. It was observed from the experiments that the adsorption of heavy metals on bentonite under same initial concentration of metals in the solation decreased in the order CuZnNiCd. The heavy metals adsorbed on bentonite can be desorbed with NH_4~+ solution. A suggestion has been proposed for thetreatment of waste water containing heavy metals by using this cheaper clay mineral as an ion exchange medium.
