Charge Characteristics of Polysilicate Aluminium Ferric and Its Analysis with X-Ray Diffraction

With the aid of micro-electrophore technique, this paper has investigated the charge characteristics of polysilicate aluminium ferric (PSAF), its flocculation mechanism and effectiveness vs. conventional flocculants. The results have shown: the charge amount of PSAF in water solution gradually decreases with the reduction of molar rate of Al 3+ /Fe 3+ and increases of SiO_2 concentration and alkalinity B *. PSAF shows positive charge as pH falling between acidic and neutral values and negative as pH being greater than 7.5. The analysis with X-ray diffraction spectrum has given an evidence that all of Al 3+ , Fe 3+ and SO 2- _4 have taken part in the reaction and been co-polymerized with polysilicic acid, through which an amorphous polymer (PSAF) has been synthesized.
