Information Distribution of Thematic Structure and Functional Translation of English and Chinese Clauses

PAN Dan(School of Foreign Languages,Southwest University,Chongqing 400715,China)
Similarities exist between English and Chinese clauses in terms of information distribution of thematic structures, but differences between them apparently occur in many aspects. As a result,Nida's principle of "Functional Equivalence" can be applied to achieve the effective translation between English and Chinese clauses. When differences arise in the information distribution of English and Chinese clauses, the translators are supposed to alter the English thematic structures to realize the information equivalence and therefore achieve functional equivalence.
