The application of infinite element in numerical analysis of geotechnical engineering

In this paper, the coordinate transformation format and displacement function of infinite element which is in common use in numerical analysis of geotechnical engineering is introduced, an plane problem which has exact solution is analysed with general method of finite element and coupling method of fininte-infinite element. It is derived that the coupling analysis method for the problem of infinite region or half infinite region has the advantage of more satisfactory precision and less workload of computation.
