QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF THE TOTAL SAPONINS INGINSENG BY TLC

Ginseng, the root of panax ginseng C.A. Mey, is an important component in many TCM preparations for emergency treatrment and tonic. Saponins are considered the active constituents in ginseng. Therefore, determining its contents can effectively control medicinal quality and contuct production procedures. This paper presented the method of determing the total saponins in ginseng (extract and shengmai injection) The total saponins were separated by TLC and were determined by spectrophotometer. The rate of recovery from ginseng oxhact was 99.2 + 3.08%, and that of shengmai injection was 98.70?.43%. This method is simple, rapid and reproducible.
