Investigation for influence of TGF-β_1 on long-term renal allograft function

Objective To determine the association between urine transforming growth factor β1(TGF-β1)concentration and long-term renal allograft function.Methods From August 1,2002 to June 30,2004,the renal recipients with kidney transplantation for one year and normal renal functions were investigated.Their blood and urine TGF-β1 concentrations were tested in an interval of at least 6 months.Three years later,there were 134 cases who were followed up for the whole investigation.The correlation between their renal functions(creatinine clearance rates) and their urine TGF-β1 relative concentrations after 1 year of renal transplantation were determined.Of the 134 cases,16 renal recipients were diagnosed as CAN.Their blood and urine TGF-β1 concentrations and other factors after 1 year of renal transplantation were compared with the normal renal recipients without CAN.Results There was a positive correlation between long-term renal functions(loss of creatinine clearance rates) and urine TGF-β1 relative concentrations after 1 year of renal transplantation.One year after renal transplantation,the urine TGF-β1 concentrations of recipients with and withou CAN were(182.7±40.2)pg/mg and(398±33.5)pg/mg(Cr) respectively.The difference had statistial significance.The blood TGF-β1 concentrations of recipients with and without CAN were(32.1±4.7)ng/mL and(31.9±4.8)ng/mL respectively,with no statistical sigaificance.Conclusion Urine TGF-β1is significantly higher before renal dysfunction in patients with CAN.The level of urine TGF-β1 in early stage after renal transplantation can predict long-term renal function.
