Objective To detect the relationship of carotid atherosclerosis and cerebral infarction. Methods Sixty cases of cerebral infarction were selected. And the subtype of cerebral infarction was judged by clinical manifestation and cranial CT/MRI.Doppler ultrasonics were performed to investigate the carotid atherosclerosis. The relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and the subtypes of cerebral infarction was observed. Results The morbidity of carotid atherosclerosis was significantly higher at the side of infarction than the other side. The multiple infarctions group was significantly higher than the single infarction group. The cerebral thrombosis group was significantly higher than the lacunar infarction group. And the morbidity of carotid atherosclerosis was significantly higher in the group of pallium infarction than in the group of basal nucleus infarction and the group of brain-stem and cerebellum infarction. Conclusion Carotid atherosclerosis is closely related with cerebral infarction especially cerebral thrombosis.
