Application of step response method in fault detection and location for neutral ineffectively earthed distribution systems

After the single-phase grounding fault occurs in neutral ineffectively earthed distribution systems,frequency spectrum characteristics of transient response caused by the step source are analyzed.All lines have the biggest amplitude peak value at some special frequency point,and the amplitude-frequency response maximum of the faulted line is the sum of all the sound lines',and their phases are reverse.Amplitude-frequency characteristic peak value and its corresponding frequency have relations with the fault distance.The step response method for single-phase grounding fault line detection and fault point location is thus proposed.ATP simulation results show that the method has perfect performance with little influenced by grounding fault resistance.
