On Literary Translation from the Perspective of Functionalist Approaches:A Comparison of Two Chinese Versions of Gone with the Wind

WU Hua-jia(Foreign Language School,Yangzhou University,Yangzhou 225002,China)
The core of German Functionalist Approaches is"Skopostheory",which has two important translationrules:coherence rule and fidelity rule.Functionalist Approaches play an important role in the criticism of literary translation.Domestication and foreignization are employed respectively in two Chinese versions of the famous novel Gone with the Wind at the levels of lexical, syntactic and paragraph. From the perspective of Functionalist Approaches, either domestication or foreignization is considered suitable only if the purpose of literary translation is fulfilled in the specific context of society and history.
