Combustion Diagnosis System Based on Flame Image Characteristics and Rough Set Theory

A diagnosis method for the boiler's combustion status is proposed which is based on the image characteristics and the rough set theory. The lightness threshold segmentation of the green channel is introduced to reduce the effect of background radiation.The polar coordinate is used to compute the flame core and ensure the image integrity.Thus,an effective characteristic region can be offered for our diagnosis.In the diagnosis,the paper uses the reasoning algorithm based on the decision-making rule of the rough set theory to form a decision-making table.In this table,the flame image characteristics are the condition attributes and the boiler status is the decision-making attributes.The weight coefficients of condition attributes to the decision-making attributes are determined by the approximation set conception in the rough set theory.Thus,the judgment on the boiler's combustion status is objective and the forceful proof is provided for the boiler combustion diagnosis.At last,an experiment has been done with a group of spot fire images from different combustion status and the experiment results are compared with the actual status,which indicates the method's feasibility.
