Three Major Schools of Artificial Intelligence Research

WANG Guang-zan;YI Xian-fei;Research Center for Social Governance Innovation,Changsha University of Science and Technology;
Artificial intelligence has formed three major schools of symbolism,connectionism and behaviorism in its research practice.Symbolism believes that intelligence is a symbolic operation based on logic rules;Connectionism believes that intelligence is an information processing system composed of brain neurons;Behaviorism believes that intelligence is to act accordingly by sensing the external environment.Through comparative analysis,we find that there are differences as well as similarities between the theories of the three schools.In terms of the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence,artificial intelligence actually extends human's cognition.From the perspective of the pessimists and optimists of technology,the technical pessimism of artificial intelligence is reasonable,but it is still immature,and to some extent it will inhibit the healthy development of artificial intelligence.According to the characteristic differences of the three major schools,the integration of various schools is the developing trend of artificial intelligence in the future.Only in this way can the artificial intelligence realize an overall simulation with the framework of the human mind in the interwoven relationship of the " body-mind-word".
