Quasi-static tests on rowlock cavity wall

Aiming at the rowlock cavity wall housing aboundingly existing in the majority of our towns and villages,in order to grasp the seismic performance of rowlock cavity wall housing and provide some useful theoretic references for seismic reinforcement of such wall,and based on the experimental study of nine half-scale rowlock cavity walls subjected to horizontal low frequency cyclic loading,the three modes of brickworks of rowlock cavity wall were analyzed,with the influence of three kinds of strength of mixed mortar and two kinds of vertical stress.The whole process of cracking-failing,the failure feature and basic seismic behavior indexes were studied such as the capability of seismic shear,the hysteresis curves,skeleton curves,the ductility and deformability.The results show that the rowlock cavity wall is vulnerable to crack,the cracking load is about 70% of its ultimate load and has obviously brittle failure characteristics.The seismic behavior of rowlock cavity wall is very poor,since its seismic shear strength is low,its hysteretic area and relative distortion are small,its energy dissipation ability is weak and its stiffness degenerates very quickly.
