Objective To study the ultrasonographic characteristics of superficial thrombotic phlebitis (STP).Methods Limb superficial thrombotic phlebitis in 52 cases was analyzed retrospectively. The position, range, morpholgy, boundary, echo patterns, and vessels in the diseased regions were observed. Results There were some features found in the disease.Local varicose veins were observed in all cases.②The lumen of veins was widened obviously.③The vein walls were thickened asymmetrically, and the vascular wall echoes were intensified.④Isoechoic and hypoechoic materials filled in the venous lumina.⑤The venous lumina could not be compressed with transducer pressure.⑥No blood flow was present in the diseased veins and subcutaneous tissues were edematous. Conclusions Combined with clinical findings, the sonographic appearances in limb superficial thrombotic phlebitis were of great value in the diagnosis of the disease.
