Experimental Research on Grinding of Si_3N_4 Ceramic

The tests were done, in which the Si_3N_4 ceramics was ground with resin-bound diamond wheel on a precision face grinder, and the grinding mechanism of Si_3N_4 was discussed from the aspects of grinding force, ratio energy, temperature and micro change on grinding surfaces etc . The results show that the material is mainly removed in brittle fracture mode when the cutting depth is larger, and the temperature rise during grinding is directly related to removal mechanism of Si_3N_4.
