Study on the method of inoculation and identification for the resistance of maize to maize rough dwarf virus

The experiments were carried out to inoculate MRDV (maize rough dwarf virus) to the maize seedlings with viruliferous planthoppers (Laodelphax striatellus). The results showed that about 20.0%~63.6% of the vectors survived after inoculation 3 days and it was so efficient that when the vector transmits MRDV, even a single planthopper was enough to infect. The group inoculation was tested in the isolated box (70 cm×60 cm×50 cm). It showed that disease incidence was 92.31%~100% and the index was 70.65%~98.03% when inoculating 100~130 plants with 200 viruliferous planthoppers per box. This method is meant for inoculating maize seedlings in box then transplanting the seedlings to the field for investigating the incidence so that it is useful to identify the maize resistance to maize rough dwarf virus in large scale.
