Physiological and biochemical research on critical period of floral initiation in Rhododendron hybrides

Changes of some physiological and biochemical traits in leaves of Rhododendron hybrides at different blossoming stages were studied at the critical period of floral initiation.The results are as follows: the contents of soluble sugar,starch and chlorophyll showed an increasing tendency,indicating such an increase contributes to the formation of floral buds;the protein content changed little during the whole period of vegetative growth.Besides,the contents of soluble sugar,starch and chlorophyll of "early blossoms" were higher than those of other two varieties(P0.05),preliminarily suggesting that "early blossoms" entered flower bud differentiation after the middle of June.
