The Effect of Drogyht Stress on the Activities of PEP Carboxylase and Protective Enzymes in wheat Seedlings

With the decrease of soil relative water content(SRWC), the achvity of PEP carboxylase in wheat seedlings increased gradually. When the SRWC decreased to 27.4%, its actiity increased to 0.118 umol CO2·mg(-1)pro·min(-1) and then it began to decrease and kept decreasing upon rewatering. The activities of protective enzymes- superoxide dismutase(SOD), Catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) changed as well. With the increase of intensity of drought the content of chlorophyll and the water potential of wheat leaves deereased, while the stomatal resistance and the malondialde hyde (MDA) content increased.These results showed that the photosynthesis and active oxygen metabolism were influenced deeply by drought stress.
