IR and Microwave Absorption Properties of Conductive Polyaniline(PANI)/γ-Fe_2O_3 Nanocomposite

γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles were prepared by sol-gel method,and then the conductive protonated polyaniline(PANI) /γ-Fe2O3 nanocomposites were synthesized by in-situ polymerization in the presence of hydrochloric acid(HCl) as the dopant. Its microstructure,morphology and DC conductivity were characterized by Χ-ray diffraction(XRD) ,transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and 4-probe technique,respectively. The microwave absorption and IR absorption of the samples were measured by vector network analyzer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) . It is found that PANI/5wt% γ-Fe2O3 nanocomposite exhibits the maximum reflection loss of -25 dB and the -8dB bandwidth of 4.6GHz,which owns lighter weight,higher absorbing efficiency and broader absorption bandwidth compared with pure PANI and pure γ-Fe2O3 powders,whereas,as the content of γ-Fe2O3 increases to 10wt % and 20 wt%,the bandwidth of the composite become narrow and the microwave absorption decreases;moreover,PANI/5wt% γ-Fe2O3 nanocomposite has higher IR absorption than that of the pure PANI and pure γ-Fe2O3,exhibiting a transmittance of 17% near wave number of 3276cm-1 and the transmittance is below 40% in 1700cm-1~1100cm-1. The mechanism of microwave and IR absorption were also discussed.
