Features of alfalfa production in humid area of subtropical zone in Sichuan

Based on the analysis of the characteristics of climate,soil and topography in the humid area of subtropical zone of Sichuan Province,the main constraints for alfalfa production were pointed out.The suggestions for improving alfalfa production were provided.These suggestions were to breed new cultivars which could tolerance humid,heat and acid environments.Meanwhile,the field management should be improved in order to increase the yield per unit area.As to the utilization of alfalfa,it should be utilized as forage crop,combined with vegetable crop and honey-source crop so that the greater economic profit could be achieved and the constraints could be resolved.
