Effects of enclosure management on soil seed bank and vegetation diversity of degraded grassland in dry-hot valley of Jinsha River

The representative degraded Savanna shrub grassland was enclosed in dry-hot valley of Jinsha River in 2004.After one or two years enclosure,some characteristics of the grassland were investigated,such as variation of soil seed bank,composition of vegetation community,seed density,diversity index and similarity index.The results show that:comparing with the control,soil seeds density and species increased very significantly(P0.001)after one or two year enclosing,and most of the species were annual herbaceous plants.The species number,diversity index and similarity index in the two years enclosing were lower than those of one year enclosed or control after two years enclosing.The similarity index show that the species of soil seeds and vegetation community species were decreasing as the enclosure years increased.This result could provide the theoretic basis and practical support for ecological recovery of degenerated grasslands in dry-hot valley of Jinsha river.
