Damage of Rhombimys opimus to Haloxylon ammodendron and the effect of different habitats on its home range selection

An investigation on Great Gerbils(Rhombimys opimus) damage and its home range selection in Mingqing was carried out.The result showed that Rhombimys opimus significantly damaged the new shoot of Haloxylon ammodendron.The length of new shoot of Haloxylon ammodendron was normal plant20% damaged plant50% damaged plant80% damaged plant.The home range was mainly distributed on fixed sand dune and between sand dunes.The flowing sand dune and the top of sand dune were not selected as the home range.The shrub richness,grass richness and grass coverage did not show correlation with hole number.However,the shrub coverage positively correlated with the hole number and the correlation could be described as y=0.5143 x-3.7757(R2=0.8113).
