Botany characteristic and phenology of three different serradella cultivars(Ornithopus compressus,Madeira,Pitman and Jebala) were studied through measuring the grass yield, seed yield, disease resistance, insect resistance and drought resistance. The results showed that the dry matter yield and seed yield of three cultivars were high.Among them, compare with the local high quality legume cultivars, the hey yield of Pitman reached 6 484 kg/hm2,higher than Yunguangzao villose vetch(P0.05)and higher than Chuxiong burr medic(P0.01).The seed yield of Medeira serradella is the highest(1 009 kg/hm2),and obvious higher than the other tested cultivars(P0.01).The results also showed that the nutritive value of three cultivars were high and their ability of diseases and insect resistance and drought resistance was strong. The three cultivars were suitable in the northern subtropical areas.
