Research on Performance and Emission of Spark Ignition Ethanol Engine

The electronically controlled injection spark-ignition gasoline engine was improved according to physical and chemical characteristics of ethanol fuel.Then the effects of the intake temperature and ignition timing on ethanol engine performance and emission were investigated.The results showed that the intake air preheating need be adopted to solve the cold start problem of ethanol engine.The power performance of ethanol engine was equivalent to that of gasoline engine,but the specific fuel consumption was reduced by more than 5 percent,and the CO and HC emissions was decreased by over 30 percent.
