GRAIN BOUNDARY SEGREGATION AND HYDROGEN INDUCED CRACKING DURING STRESS CORROSION IN Lc_9 ALLOY

The growth kinetics of stress corrosion cracks in Lc_9 alloy have been exa-mined using DCB specimens under various aging conditions in moist air envi-ronment at ambient temperature.The stage Ⅱ crack growth rate was reduced inthe following order:underaged T_0,peak aged T_6,and over aged T_2,T_(7651),T_(73).Direct evidences were obtained showing Mg segregation on grain boun-daries and the enrichment of hydrogen atoms at the crack tip region.The inte-raction between Mg and hydrogen atoms determines the stress corrosion cracksensitivity of Lc_9 Al alloy.
