CORROSION OF STAINLESS STEELS AND Ni-BASE ALLOY IN SUPERCRITICAL WATER OXIDATION SYSTEM

Stainless steels lCr18Ni9Ti, 316 and Sanicro28 and one nickel base alloy Ni825 were tested in supercritical (at 400-420 ℃, 25MPa) conditions and subcritical (at 330-350℃. 25MPa) conditions for 1 week phenol oxidation period. Results showed that all the alloys exhibited only minor general corrosion but lCr18Ni9Ti and 316 stainless steels suffer pit corrosion at different conditions. There are two oxide product layers on the alloy surfaces: outside porous layer and inner protective layer. EDAX revealed that the protective layer has higher Cr and Ni content than that of the outside layer.
