Energy absorption behaviour of aluminium foam under medium strain rate

Quasi-static axial compression and drop hammer tests were carried out to study the energy absorption behaviour of the aluminium foam with different densities. First, the axial compression behaviour of aluminium foam with different densities, heights and directions was tested; then drop hammer tests with medium strain rate(100 s-1) were carried out. The test results show that aluminium foam is quite close to a kind of isotropic structure, with high specific energy absorption. The aluminium foam samples show no strain rate sensitivity under medium strain rate.
