The Molecular Mechanism of Inset Circadian Clock Entrained by Light and Temperature

Circadian clock is the most universal rhythm in living organisms.The regulatory mechanism of Drosophila circadian clock rhythm uses a "transcription-translation-inhibition of transcription" pathway.Light is the first understood zeitgeber for the circadian rhythm.It plays a very important role in regulating the clock.It can trigger a delay or advance of the time phase.In the natural environment,temperature is also considered as a significant zeitgeber.It can influence the circadian clock by only 1~ 2 ℃.The mechanism entrained by temperature is similar with light,and both of them require the involvement of protein CRY.Temperature and light can act synergistically in regulating the circadian clock.The PER-TIM-CRY complex is critical for temperature-mediated mechanism as well as for light.The expression of per and tim genes are synchronous upon stimulation from light,but with the treatment of temperature the expression peak of per is earlier than that of tim.Diapause of Bombyx mori is a very typical mechanism of actively adapting to the ambient temperature and light.Therefore,it may become an excellent model for studying the interaction of these two zeitgebers.
