Analysis of Genetic Effect and Heterosis on Cocoon Quality Characters in Tussah Silkworm

In order to understand the genetic behavior and display of population heterosis of the cocoon quality traits of tussah silkworm,genetic behavior of cocoon quality traits from 3 tussah silkworm varieties were analyzed by utilizing a complete diallel cross design,an additive-dominance genetic model(AD model),and MINQUE(1) statistic approach.The results showed that cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight were controlled by both additive and dominant genes,but cocoon shell rate was mainly controlled by dominant genes.The order of heritability from high to low was:cocoon weight cocoon shell weight cocoon shell rate.The 3 cocoon quality traits all showed positive heterosis over mid-parents,and heterosis of F2 generation was half to that of F1 generation.Cocoon weight showed negative heterosis over better-parents.The heterosis over better-parents of cocoon shell weight of F1 generation was not obvious.Cocoon shell weight of F2 generation showed negative heterosis over better-parents,but cocoon shell rate of F2 generation showed positive heterosis over better-parents.Among the 3 tested tussah silkworm varieties,cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight of variety 582 had relatively higher effect value of additive genes,being suitable as cross parent for breeding new varieties with high cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight.
