The fencing and grazing succession laws were explored by the study in this paper on the spring—au- tumn pasture of sagebrush desert.Two effective measures and optimized utilizing model of fencing+ moderately grazing(50%) were found of improving and conservative utilizing sagebrush desert grassland as well as raising its productivity.The results showed also that forage yields and perennial grass yield ratio af- ter fencing for 4 years increased by 87.8% and 5.6 times more than those before fencing,respectively; By comparison to five different measures,the moderately grazing was the best measure,either conservative utilizing grassland or improving grassland quality;In the moderately grazing measure,forage yield in- creased by 79.6% over that before fencing,decreased to 4.3% less than that after fencing for 4 years, and perennial grass yield ratio raised 3.1 times more than before fencing.The fencing and moderately graz- ing gained remarkably the benefits of increasing forage yield and improving grassland composition and struc- ture.
