Changes of productivity and species diversity in resume succession on the degraded steppe of Maowusu sands in Ningxia

The diversity of species, community structure and forage productivity of different forest age after planting Caragana on the degraded steppe in Maowusu sands, Ningxia province, was studied. The result showed that: planting Caragana forest had a positive role on the vegetation recovery of degraded steppe communities, diversity increased with the increased forest age of Caragana, What's more, community structure tended to be more stabilized with the increase of the forest age. Forage productivity showed a relative stable trend due to high soil moisture storage, i.e. with increased forest age, forage productivity changed very little to the change of rainfall.
