Research progress of the germplasm resource of Elymus L.

SUN Jian-ping~(1,2),YUAN Qing-hua~1(1.Institute of Animal Husbandry Research,Academy of ChineseAgricultural Science,Beijing 100094,China;2.Bio-Technology Centre of Shanghai Agricultural Science,Shanghai 200000,China)
Elymus is the largest genus in the grass tribe Triticeae(Poaceae).Approximately 150 perennial and polyploid species are wildly distributed throughout the world.Elymus includes many economically important forage grasses as well as species with agronomically valuable characters, such as stress tolerance, disease resistance and wide adaptation. These traits can be transferred to cereal crops like wheat, barley, and rye through gene introgression. The great number of species in the genus creates further problems for making recommendations on preservation strategies. So studies of genetic diversity in these species are hence of primee importance.
