Spatio-temporal variation of root biomass of vegetation under subalpine larch forest in Guandi Mountain

Root biomass,spatial distribution and seasonal dynamic of vegetation under subalpine larch forest in Guandi Mountain were studied.It was found that the average annual root biomass of shrub community was 127.16 g/m2,varying from 94.79 g/m2 to 215.57 g/m2,showing a significant seasonal change(P0.05).65% root biomass distributed in 0-10 cm soil.With the increasing of soil depth,root biomass reduced rapidly,only 25% and 10% distributed in 10-20 cm,20-30 cm,respectively.Seasonal variation was also significant among these three layers.Horizontal variation showed that most roots distributed 20 cm and 100 cm away from the trunks,less in 50 cm.This study was to understand potential underground ecological process of subalpine larch forest and productivity characteristics,providing basic reference to further precise evaluation of biomass and productivity of forest eco-system.
