Study on biological characteristics of Longdong wild alfalfa

Longdong wild alfalfa is a kind of rhizome-slantwise,perennial forage,which grows in the semi damp mountainous area in Dingxi and Qingshui county of Gansu province.The results of cultivation experiment showed that: compared with cultivated alfalfa,Longdong wild alfalfa had a slower growth rate and a stronger branching ability with smaller leaf size and less leaf numbers.Its roots were rhizome type and grew slant-wise or horizontally without main taproot.It was tolerant to trample and drought and had many other botanic and biological characteristics that cannot be found in cultivated alfalfa.
