Effects of years for reclamation and enclosure years on soil properties of degraded sandy grassland

The grassland reclaimation and enclosures in gruop of different years were chosen to measure the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil were studied in the Horqin sandy land. The results are as follows: 1) A series of evolution occurred in 0-15 cm plow layer along with time increase of reclamation, the content of fine particle fractions (0.1 mm) reduced but that of sand grains varying in a range of 2-0.1 mm increased gradually. At the same time, bulk density raised and total porosity reduced. Moreover, the content of organic C、total N and total P declined gradually, and C/N ratio, C/P ratio and enzyme activities also decreased due to reclamation. 2) After 7,11 year of enclosure, the proportion of fine particle size (0.1 mm) was respectively increased by 26.5% and 80.3%, and organic carbon by 73.8% and 98.0% comparing to the grazing grassland in soil (0-15 cm). Physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil (0-15 cm) significantly improved. 3) There are hardly obvious changes of soil properties in the 15-30 cm layer under the condition of reclamation and enclosure. 4) The whole plow layer had developed towards shifting sand in the course of cultivation in successive years. After 5-year reclamation, a mass of carbon and nitrogen had been lost in the plow layer. After enclosure, vegetation got restoration, which reduced wing erosion and resulted in improvement of soil properties.
