Realtionship Between Isoperoxidase and Expression of Cold Tolerance in Creep Rooted Alfalfa

The changes of isoperoxidase in roots, stems and sprouts of creep and straight rooted alfalfa were examined. The results showed that the activity and number of isoenzyme bands in both types of alfalfa changed with the seasonal temperatures. The number of bands in the creep rooted type was significantly higher than those in the straight rooted ytpe, which suggested that the former was more cold tolerance than the later. The numbers and activities of isoenzyme bands in four alfalfa cultivars with different chilling sensitivity were creep rooted alfalfacv. Longdongcv. Jinnancv. Hunter River nuder the alternative temperatures. The results illustrated that the isoperoxidase in alfalfa roots may relate to the expression of genes controlling the creep rooted characters.
