Acupuncture Effects on theRat Epidermal Growth Factor and its Gene Expression

The acupuncture effects on rat epidermal growth factor (EGF) gene expression has been studied with the samples of rat submandibular gland and circulatinglymphocytes, the nonradioactive antisense EGF probe was prepared by us and in situ hy-br idization were carried out refering to Larsson's technique. Besides, the immunoreac-tirvities of EGF, EGFRwere demonstrated by means of Sterberger's PAP method. Theresults were as follow: the EGF gene expression hybridization signal was stronger inacupuncture group than that in the control group (P0.05-0.01 ). Meanwhile we havefound EGF gene expression signal also localized at tile rat lymphocytes. There was nosignificant difference in EGF-IR between the acupuncture group and the control group(P0.05). However, the EGFR-IR at the submandibular gland and lymphocytesacupuneture group were intenser than that in the control group (P0.05). The aboveresults showed that EGF gene expression and EGFR were localized at rat submandibulargranular duct cell and circulating lymphocytes; and acupuncture may promote EGF geneexperssion and EGFR-IR. There may be a correlation in acupuncture effect between "ex- exterior" and"interior" to a certain extent.
