Doped composite oxides Li_4Ti_5O_(12) as negative electrode material for lithium-ion batteries

Lithiated composite titanium oxides were prepared by heating of Li 2CO 3 and TiO 2 at 1 000 ℃ for 26 h. And a few of elements (Sn, W, Ni) were introduced into the lithiated titanium composite oxides during the synthesizing process. XRD measurements indicated that these oxides had a spinel structure. The charge/discharge behavior of Li 4Ti 5O 12 electrode in a Li / Li 4Ti 5O 12 cell was studied at 0 030A/m 2 between 0.10 and 2.3 V with 1mol /L LiClO 4 PC DME electrolyte. The results showed that the electrode capacity for the initial discharge was 300 mAh/g and the reversible capacity was 100 mAh/g. The cycling efficiency of the electrode for the first cycle was 40 %, but it became approximately 100% in the following cycles. Doped elements (Sn, W, Ni) were introduced to Li 4 Ti 5O 12 during the synthesizing process. The discharge and charge results of these electrodes indicated that Sn doped Li 4Ti 5O 12 had lower initial irreversible capacity and higher cycling efficiency than that of other electrodes .The Sn doped Li 4Ti 5O 12 could be a good negative electrode material for some lithium ion batteries.
