Monitoring Land Subsidence by Using Continuous GPS

By analyzing data collected by 15 continuous GPS stations during 2005~2006 in Beijing,the vertical positions time series were obtained under the frame of ITRF.The vertical rate and correlated noise amplitudes derived by Maximum Likelihood Estimator show that spatial-temporal correlated noises and seasonal terms have effect on Beijing GPS time series.Hence,attention must be paid when the results obtained by GPS were explained.The trends of GPS vertical component reveal that there is remarkable subsidence in previously recognized areas(Dongsanqi and Pinggu) where the subsidence rates can reach more than 40 mm/a.Several aspects related to monitoring subsidence by using GPS are also discussed.
