Zero Emission Coal-based Power Plant and Development

The high-efficiency clean coal utilization has become one of the global topics of energy sustainable development along with the worse environmental issues originated from the general coal usages.Zero Emission coal-based power generation is one of the novel coal-based power generation techniques based on the hydrogen production from coal and solid oxide fuel cell in recent years.It issimilar to the conventional coal-fired plant but,there is no coal combustion.It is in the reformation process which was in the downstream of gasification that the hydrogen is produced and then the chemical energy of hydrogen is converted to electricity through the fuel cell with very high energy conversion efficiency of approximately 70%,which is doubled that of the conventional power plant.During the whole energy conversion process,atmospheric CO 2 emission is avoided and also the familiar pollutants by conventional power plant such as NOX、SOX、particulates and heavy metals.Therefore,its pollutant emissions were near zero.It can be concluded with great significance of producing “green” energy in the future.The Zero Emission coal-based power plant and its current state of developments are reviewed in principle in this paper.
