Change of mineral nutrient content and C/N in blueberry leaves during flower-bud differentiation

The impact of mineral nutrient and C/N on flower bud differentiation in blueberry(Vaccinium) was studied. 8-year-old trees of 'Northland' was taken as materials, and the content of seven mineral nutrient elements(N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn) and carbohydrates and the changes of C/N were determined in blueberry leaves at flower bud differentiation stages. The results showed that the content of N and Fe reduced obviously, whereas the content of K and Mn increased during flower bud differentiation of blueberry. Meanwhile, the content of P kept dropping from July 24 th to August 9th and increased to a maximum value of 3.92% until September 2nd and then dropped. The content of Ca and Mg had two peak value. Soluble sugar and starch contents in blueberry leaves increased at the beginning of floral bud differentiation and then decreased. In addition, C/N was increased by August25 th, then declined. It was suggested that a high level of C/N, N and Fe were related with floral bud differentiation of blueberry. Meanwhile, decreasing in contents of Ca and Mg in leaves were related to petals primordium, while accumulating in contents of P, K and Mn was related to flower organs formation and the rapid increase in carbohydrates promoted flower formation.
